Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up to generate funds in the upcoming summer transfer window by offloading surplus squad players who do not align with manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans, and among those who may be on the departure list is Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine international has reportedly expressed his eagerness to leave North London due to his limited playing time during the ongoing campaign. And Lo Celso’s former club, Real Betis, have emerged as a potential destination for his return.

According to Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo, Betis’s sporting director, Manu Fajardo, has openly expressed the club’s interest in re-signing Lo Celso.

Fajardo highlighted the midfielder’s previous impact at Betis and his continued success with the Argentina national team as driving factors behind their pursuit.

He clarified that pursuing Lo Celso or similar players wouldn’t automatically lead to the departure of Fekir, suggesting that they could complement each other effectively within the team’s structure.

He said:

“Giovani is a player who has already shown his worth here, who continues to do so when he goes with the Argentina national team and who is also complementary to Nabil Fekir. Being able to opt for players like Lo Celso or similar profiles does not have to imply the departure of Nabil.”

Lo Celso has struggled to secure regular playing time for Spurs this season, featuring in just 17 Premier League games and accumulating minimal minutes on the pitch.

His injury history, including hamstring and muscle injuries that sidelined him for 11 games this season, has further complicated his situation.

Tottenham initially secured Lo Celso on loan from Real Betis in the summer of 2019, paying a €16 million loan fee.

They later made the deal permanent in January of the following year, paying an additional transfer fee of €32 million.

Now, his potential departure could serve as a means for Spurs to bolster their transfer funds ahead of the summer window.

Betis are not the only club to be linked with him. Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen on signing him with recent reports mentioning that Diego Simeone is a fan of the player and are willing to offer £17m million for him.
