The San Francisco 49ers continue to have Dak Prescott’s number.
The 30-year-old Dallas Cowboys quarterback was sacked and intercepted three times while being held to just 153 yards passing in Sunday’s 42-10 loss at Levi’s Stadium, prompting a pair of former Pro Bowlers to put him on blast following Dallas’ second loss in three games.
“The truth is, he’s not that good,” ex-Bills and Eagles running back LeSean McCoy said during an appearance on “Speak.” “[He threw three picks], you can’t win with a guy like that.”

McCoy’s words were harsh, but not nearly as damning as what former 49ers safety Donte Whitner said in sharing his thoughts on Prescott during the NBC Sports Bay Area post-game show.
“Dak Prescott sucks. Period,” Whitner said. “They talk so much about Dak Prescott being a top-tier quarterback, a franchise guy — I don’t see it. I see them trying to cover up for what he lacks (with) a lot of quick throws, cutting half of the field off and giving him easy throws. Other than that, he’s not a quarterback that can drop back and really take advantage of a defense and carve it up.”
Including the playoffs, Prescott has now lost his last three starts against the 49ers, who have eliminated the Cowboys from the postseason each of the last two years. All-time, Prescott is 2-3 against San Francisco with seven touchdowns, six interceptions and nine sacks while averaging just 218 yards per game.
After making Pro Bowls in 2016 and 2018, Prescott has seemingly worn out his welcome after an injury-shortened 2020. He threw a career-high 15 interceptions last season, and he’s struggled to find his footing this year, ranking 17th in yards and touchdowns and 19th in passer rating.
Many have speculated that 2023 could be Prescott’s last with the Cowboys. The team traded with the 49ers for 2021 No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance a few weeks ago in a move that some believe signaled the end of Prescott’s tenure in Dallas.
