Kelly Oubre Jr. goes off on referees after controversial no-call

The referees missed a call on Kelly Oubre Jr.’s final shot that cost the Sixers the game. Then, Oubre took shots at the whole crew.

Paul George made a great deal of contact on Oubre’s last-second drive for a buzzer-beater.

Sixers coach Nick Nurse yelled “That’s a foul,” with some extra profanity. Then, after the final buzzer sounded on the Clippers’ 108-107 win, Oubre had words — and gestures — for the officiating crew.

After giving the officials a one-fingered salute, Oubre walked up and called each of them Too Short’s favorite word as Nurse also shouted at the refs.

Despite Oubre’s harsh words, crew chief Kevin Scott admitted the officials had missed a foul on his last shot.

"On the floor in real time to the crew, the crew interpreted that play as the defender jumping vertically,” Scott told a pool reporter after the game. “However, in postgame video review, we did observe some slight drift to his left by the defender, George, and a foul should have been ruled.”

Oubre was apologetic after the game.

“We're not perfect,” he told reporters. “The refs aren’t perfect. I want to apologize for just losing my cool, because that’s something I try to work on each and every day, and try to represent God the best way I possibly can. That wasn’t it. So I ask for forgiveness.”

The referees may have lost the game for the Sixers, but Kawhi Leonard won it for the Clippers. With five seconds left, he pinned Oubre’s shot between the rim and the backboard, forcing the jump ball that led to Oubre’s controversial final attempt.

Oubre committed his own foul on Leonard just before that, sending The Claw to the foul line for a go-ahead and one, Leonard’s second straight three-point play in the final 44 seconds.

Leonard got the calls. Oubre didn’t. The Clippers got the win. And Oubre is likely getting a fine.
